Located just half an hour north of uptown Charlotte, Lake Norman is a popular destination for boating and water-based recreational activities. It draws visitors that include both powerboating partygoers and nature-loving families.

Nicknamed the “Island Sea,” Lake Norman is the largest manmade lake in the state. It covers nearly 32,500 acres and features 520 miles of shoreline, much of which is open to the public.

The lake has a long history of supporting boaters, as evidenced by its regular regattas and cruises. It also has boating amenities that include ample places to launch, fuel, rent, and repair vessels. Open to boats ranging from manpowered kayaks and canoes to motorized pontoons and speedboats, Lake Norman has no restrictions in terms of horsepower or speed limits.
